Hi! Danielle Wraith here! The Second Act is the weekly newsletter I always wanted in my inbox, packed with obsessively-curated recommendations, thoughtful reflections on books, feelings, life, and the art of making room for more. Whether you're seeking inspiration or connection. The Second Act offers a warm, inviting space for all.
Imagine we’re catching up over coffee and I’m gushing over what I’ve been Lovin’ Lately…
We can’t stop playing Bananagrams Word Game in our house and it’s been so fun! My son made up a version where we make up words but have to give the words a definition that makes sense and it’s the most creative and silly version.
📚 All Fours by Miranda July — Going on this full-on trip with this perimenopausal woman was an experience. Sometimes chaotic, but always engaging, I kept wanting to find out how she was going to handle her next exchange. I loved how she was able to connect disparate, ordinary events that ended up being a huge impact on her personal growth. The random thoughts combined with unique perspectives, I love how the author incorporated other people’s lenses into her learning about herself.
🎧 “Try This” Podcast by The Washington Post: In this bite-sized alternative to NPR’s already snackable “Life Kit,” host Cristina Quinn shares tips in sub-ten-minute episodes. Her first group of “audio classes” tackles insomnia and, while most of the tips are fairly obvious, some, like conceptualizing sleep as a ball of pizza dough, are helpful.
📺 “Presumed Innocent” on Apple TV+: It tells the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys' office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. We’re all watching, right? Good, because I have a few things I want to discuss. first: the sex scenes. is it just me, or are these sex scenes like…ungodly hot?! In them, jake gyllenhaal—who I would never in my life have thought capable of chemistry like this—comes across as what I like to call dirty hot. second: Do we think Rusty did it?! I can’t tell who’s innocent and who’s guilty here, which I suppose is the point. but trust me when I say, I am transfixed. also, I’m sort of into the idea that apple is only releasing one episode a week. there’s a part of me that misses when you had to wait for your favorite show to come out, and this is very much feeding that need.
Also, I saw this week that Severance season 2 is coming in January 2025 and I have high hopes!
Sharing a few of my saves and other faves bc cool girls don’t gatekeep
Eberjey PJs— They are soft, buttery, and loose enough to feel relaxed but not so much you are swimming in fabric under your sheets. I love them. (I don’t wash my PJs after every wear FYI, I like to get several sleeps out of them so two pairs is the right amount for one in the wash and one to wear.)
This blackberry gin spritz I need to make ASAP
I swear this oil has changed my life. a little behind both ears for the best sleep of your life.
This Linen Button Wrap Midi Dress is my favorite new date night dress.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in VANILLA!!! My new favorite!!
After months of hauling around so.much.stuff from one activity to the next activity, I upgraded to a large L.L.Bean tote (with monogramming) and I’m so excited to have a better way to haul everything. I got the mauve which I love.
