This week felt like August in disguise, still summer, but with a whisper of what's coming next. I’ve been in a weirdly productive nesting mode: sorting drawers, clearing out digital clutter, meal planning like I’m prepping for a hibernation I secretly want. Maybe it’s the school-year rhythm sneaking in, or maybe it’s just the joy of a clean desktop. Either way, it’s been a week of small wins and little resets.
My daughter asked for “just one more” chapter of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory the other night and curled into my side in that sleepy, noodle-limbed way kids do. I don’t think I’ll forget it.
Weekend Itinerary
What to Read: “The WNBA Has a Good Problem on Its Hands” Jemele Hill Reframes a story of growth into a conversation about fairness. As the WNBA surges in popularity, with skyrocketing viewership, ticket, and merch sales, the players are still receiving just around 9.3% of league revenue, far below pro sports norms. Hill beautifully argues that this moment isn't just about rising star power, it's about labor equity, visibility, and what it means when success finally arrives. It reminded me that real reset isn’t just inward: it can be a choice to show up more fully, demand what’s deserved, and plant small seeds of change where they matter.
What to Watch/Listen To: Sugar (Apple TV+) An enigmatic private detective, Colin Farrell, struggles with personal demons as he investigates the disappearance of a Hollywood producer's beloved granddaughter. Noir vibes, weirdly tender, and just twisty enough to keep you guessing.
What to Make: Snack plates for dinner. Think: crackers, hummus, whatever’s left in the produce drawer, maybe a little cheese if you're fancy. It counts. It’s summer. The stove can rest.
What to Try: A walking-and-listening combo: an audiobook from the library + a short evening stroll. It’s movement that doesn’t feel like a task and a gentle way to transition out of the day.
What to Do: Pick one tiny reset. Clean out a junk drawer, refill your water bottle, or finally delete those 47 screenshots. Small clears create big calm.

Grounding Rituals I’m Leaning Into Right Now
This isn’t a perfectly curated routine, it’s just a handful of soft moments I’ve been reaching for lately. The kind that remind me where I am, and who I am, when everything feels like it’s speeding up.
Looking up at the trees with sunshine peeking through
Leaning into slower mornings. Letting the light tell me when to begin.Journaling
Clearing mental clutter, just a few quiet pages each day.Petting Margot as she jumps onto my lap
Making space for soft moments. The ones that ground me in the now.Eating ice cream outdoors
Letting little delights count. Joy can be as simple as a cone.Carrying coffee
A warm mug in hand. A reset in motion.Wine at the table with friends
Noticing joy. Choosing it. Sharing it.Reading poetry in a hammock
Ending the day in stillness, with words that hold me.

None of this is perfect. But it’s keeping me grounded.
These aren’t big, life-changing habits. They’re small, steady touchpoints, reminders that I don’t need to wait for the perfect moment to feel present. In a season that’s equal parts lingering summer and back-to-school buildup, these rituals are helping me move through the in-between with a little more calm, a little more clarity, and a softness I want to carry forward. Leave a comment and tell me how you’re moving through your days.

A few little things I’ve been eyeing (or already added to the cart):
This striped cotton apron that makes me want to cook dinner barefoot with jazz on
A bulk pack of school labels because I swore I’d be more organized this year and… here we are
A backup of my favorite mineral sunscreen (this is your reminder to restock now before fall sneaks in and we all forget)
Poetry books from the library… and then the same ones in my cart because I can’t stop underlining

A few links I couldn’t close this week:
The Case for Doing Nothing – A gentle reminder from The New York Times that rest is productive too (especially in July).
A Peach Galette That’s Foolproof and Pretty – The kind of summer baking that doesn’t feel like a project.
This Podcast Episode on Digital Burnout – Short, smart, and slightly convicting. Worth a listen if your screen time report makes you wince.
This lace-trim camisole and pajama short set in linen from J.Crew – Because I’m not saying napwear is the outfit of the summer, but I will be wearing it on repeat with my favorite book in hand.
That’s all for this week’s Petite Pause, little reset tucked into your scroll. Whether you’re easing into a new rhythm or just trying to catch your breath before the next thing, I hope something here grounded you, inspired you, or simply made you feel a little more like yourself.
Here’s to soft structure, small joys, and weekends that don’t rush.
